Visitors to Washington, D.C. can expect a few different taxes while spending time in the city:
- Sales Tax: The sales tax in Washington, D.C. is 6%.
- Hotel Tax: When staying at a hotel or other lodging, visitors will be subject to a 14.95% hotel tax. This includes a 6% sales tax, a 5.75% occupancy tax, and a 1% tourism tax.
- Restaurant Tax: D.C. has a 10% tax on prepared food and beverages at restaurants, cafes, and other eateries, in addition to the standard 6% sales tax.
- Parking Tax: Visitors who park in public garages or parking meters in D.C. are subject to a 18% parking tax.
