Simonson Mentorship Award

About the Award

This award is presented annually to a consumer behavior researcher who received a PhD at least 10 years ago to honor their mentoring of doctoral students.  This award is entirely funded by an endowment given to ACR by Itamar Simonson’s former students. The inaugural award was given in 2023.

Joseph W. Alba

University of Florida

Professor Joe Alba has an exemplary record of mentoring doctoral students who have themselves impacted the field through their research. Professor Alba has served on the doctoral committees of 47 Marketing PhD students, and his advisees have won major awards in the field including the AMA John Howard Award (Susan Broniarczyk, A. V. Muthukrishnan, Lisa E. Bolton) and the JCR Ferber Award (Amitava Chattopadhyay, Stijn Van Osselaer). He has been a coauthor with many scholars at early stages in their careers who have made high impacts on the field including Stacy Wood, Luk Warlop, Jo Andrea Hoegg, and Yanmei Zheng. His skill at mentoring has been passed down through his students, who have shared the expertise they gained by working with him with coauthors as well as their own students.
