There are multiple types of parallel sessions at ACR conferences: Special Sessions, Competitive Papers (both 10 and 15 minutes), Roundtables, Workshops and Films/Art Festival. Working Papers (a.k.a. posters) are presented during the Friday evening reception. Please see the guidelines below for preparing and giving your presentation in each of these types of sessions.
Special Session Presentation Guidelines
Each special session is 80 minutes in length including time for audience questions and answers. Each talk in a special session will be listed in the program for 20 minutes. Please make sure that each talk and its Q&A is completed within the 20-minute time limit.
Regardless of presentation length, the meeting room will be equipped with:
- Windows based PC with the latest version of Microsoft PowerPoint with wireless internet access
- HDMI connection
- Projector and screen (please use 16:9 aspect ratio)
- Lectern microphone
- Laser pointer and slide advancer
The provided laptops will support versions of Microsoft PowerPoint and files saved to Adobe Acrobat. If you use a Mac, please ensure your file is saved as a PC version or as a pdf.
Presenters are to bring the final version of their presentation, and any necessary additional files, on a USB drive to be uploaded to the presentation laptop during the break prior to their session.
Should audio and/or video be part of the presentation, the audio/video file must be loaded on the presentation computer as streaming using the provided Wi-Fi is not recommended due to buffering and file size needs.
Please test your presentation in advance to ensure that all slides/images/videos are working properly. All videos should be embedded in your presentation and not rely on internet strength to stream.
Competitive Paper Guidelines
Competitive papers are individual papers presented in a cohesive session. There are two different types of competitive paper sessions: CP15 (15-min presentation sessions) and CP10 (10-min presentation sessions). Please make sure to check whether your presentation is accepted for a 10-min or 15-min format. Please see below for more details on how these sessions are formatted.

CP15
CP15 sessions are 80 minutes (with 4 individual papers). Each talk will be listed as 20 minutes in the program. Please make sure your talk and Q&A is completed within this time limit.
We ask that the presenting author of the first paper listed for a given session serve as that session’s chair, introducing each speaker and advising speakers on the time remaining.
CP10
CP10 sessions will be 60 minutes long and will include five 10-minute presentations and one 10-minute discussion. Please make sure that each talk is no longer than 10 minutes out of respect for other speakers and for keeping the program on schedule.

Working Paper Presentation Guidelines
There is one designated Working Paper poster session and reception on Friday in the Exhibit Hall of the Palmer House Hilton (4th Floor). Kindly set up your poster in the 15 minute period (18:00 – 18:15) prior to the start of the Working Paper Session (18:15 start time).
Poster formatting recommendations:
- Include a title block that clearly indicates the title of the study, full names of all authors, and the affiliation and email for at least the first/presenting author.
- Keep the amount of text to a minimum; include plenty of blank space and avoid long blocks of text.
- Use a large font, typically at least 36-point for the main text.
- Graphics can help to indicate methods clearly and concisely, e.g., screenshots of models, cartoons of experimental setups, overall workflows.
- Main results are usually best presented visually with figures; tables should be reserved for cases where readers need to see data with certain precision.
- Ensure contents have a logical flow.
- Include appropriate in-text citations, with a reference list that presents enough information for readers to unambiguously locate the reference.
The maximum size for your poster is 40×40 inches (100cm x 100cm), but you do not need to use the full space. Push pins will be provided for you to adhere the poster to the board.
Please stand near your poster throughout the session to answer questions.
Removal of posters at the end of the display period is the responsibility of the author(s). Posters not removed by the deadline will be removed and disposed of by meeting staff. Please note that the posters will be held at the registration desk until the end of the conference, after which time they will be recycled.
